Despite wearing a no-contact red vest during Friday's scrimmage against Catholic school rival Bishop Luers at Saint Francis, Bishop Dwenger senior quarterback Mike Fiacable wasn't about avoiding physical play in his first action with the Saints since an ACL injury more than a year ago.
"I didn't like it but I will just go with whatever they say," Fiacable said of the red vest.
Bishop Dwenger Chris Svarczkopf, who lost Fiacable for the season in a preseason practice and another QB for a few weeks in the scrimmage last year, wasn't about to have Fiacable play without the vest.
But that doesn't mean contact isn't in Fiacable's future.
"Matter of fact, they want me to play him on defense but that's going to take awhile," Svarczkopf said. "That's going to be later but is a possibility too."
The recovery process included strength training in his upper body as his leg recovered, giving Fiacable even more strength in his senior season.
"In the spring, I saw him dunk a basketball in the gym, and said 'Mike, are you supposed to be doing that?' He said it's all that power stuff," Svarczkopf said. "He's very confident."
