TinCaps get swept on road

The South Bend Silver Hawks used a five-run second inning to help finish off a three-game sweep of the TinCaps with a 7-6 win Friday at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend.

Fort Wayne (60-56, 17-30 second half) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second before South Bend (72-44, 29-19) scored five runs in the bottom of the inning.

It is the third time this year that the Silver Hawks have swept the TinCaps, and Fort Wayne dropped to 0-7 in South Bend this season.

The Silver Hawks went up 7-2 before the TinCaps scored four runs in the top of the sixth.

Fort Wayne outhit South Bend 13-7. Rodney Daal led the way with three hits, including a home run, and two RBI, while Mallex Smith and Alberth Martinez each had two hits.

Brian Adams had a solo home run.

Joe Ross (4-7) took the loss after giving up five hits and six earned runs, while walking four in 2 1/3 innings.

Note: The TinCaps reinstated right-handed pitcher Joe Church from the disabled list, while right-handed pitcher Ruben Mejia was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to Wednesday.
