Prison time, seizure set over child porn

A man arrested in his Ball State University dorm on child pornography charges pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court this week.

Joseph Ryan Topp, 19, pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

As part of a plea agreement, federal prosecutors will recommend Topp be sentenced to the minimum the offense calls for, which in court documents is five years.

Topp was charged this past November after an undercover FBI agent began conversing with him on a peer-to-peer file sharing program.

Child pornography was found on Topp’s electronic devices after agents showed up at his home in Angola and his dorm room in Muncie.

Also, Topp will forfeit a thumb drive, a MacBook and a hard drive to federal agents as part of his plea deal.
