TinCaps lose in 9th

The host Lake County Captains scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to slip past the TinCaps 3-2 in the third game of a home-and-away four-game series Thursday in Eastlake, Ohio.

The TinCaps (56-51, 13-24 second half) had beaten the Captains (42-64, 19-20) 4-3 a day earlier to stop a five-game losing streak.

Fort Wayne played Lake County in two games at Parkview Field before traveling to Ohio to finish the four-game series. The TinCaps have lost their last four series.

The TinCaps’ Mallex Smith was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored and Alberth Martinez was 2 for 5.

The TinCaps took a 2-0 lead with runs in the first two innings. The Captains tied the score at 2 with two runs in the seventh.

Grant Sides (1-0) got the win for the Captains, while Jorge Guzman (0-1) got the loss after giving up the game-winner in the ninth.

Note: Catcher Dane Phillips was moved to Advanced-A Lake Elsinore, while catcher Miguel Del Castillo came over fromSan Antonio.
