DWI suspect flees to home, charged

A 17-minute police chase in and out of Montpelier, Ohio, ended after the man drove home, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The patrol said Ricky L. Hicks was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless operation, speed, not wearing a seat belt, stop sign violations and felony fleeing and eluding.

They said Hicks took off Monday evening when a trooper tried to stop his pickup truck on Ohio 576, just north of the village. Hicks had been driving 75 mph in a 55-mph zone, the patrol said.

They said the 2007 Chevy pickup went south, taking several state routes and Montpelier streets and going back out into the county, as officers from Williams County and the village joined the pursuit.

The patrol said Montpelier officers caught Hicks when he stopped by his own home.

Hicks was taken to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio in Stryker to wait for an initial court appearance.
