Legionnaires’ disease kills 6 in Ohio

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio – Five more people in Ohio have died of Legionnaires ’ disease after one was killed and another sickened in St. Mary’s last week.

State health officials on Tuesday confirmed the latest death from the outbreak that has killed five and sickened 30 others at a retirement community in Reynoldsburg just outside Columbus.

Investigators said they have pinpointed the cause to bacteria in the water system at the Wesley Ridge Retirement Community.

Tests are ongoing to find out what caused the death and illness at an auto parts plant in the western Ohio town of St. Marys.

Health officials said the plant already is treating potential bacteria sources.
