'89 murder suspect returned to Steuben County

Huq

More than 20 years after a man suspected in a Steuben County slaying fled to India, he has returned to the county to face a murder charge, according to the county sheriff's department.

Mahfuz Huq arrived at Indianapolis International Airport several days ago and was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was held on a 1989 murder charge.

Huq had been in New Delhi at the Tihar prison pending his extradition to the U.S., according to a previous story.

Huq, 47, was returned to the Steuben County Jail at 4:16 p.m. Tuesday. He had been temporarily housed in the Marion County Jail medical facility for a routine examination.

He is scheduled for an initial court appearance Thursday in Steuben County.
