Llkely no K's assistant at all this season

It's not just 'not Chaulk'

The Komets didn't consider offering Colin Chaulk the position as assistant coach before he was hired by the rival Kalamazoo Wings today.

Ultimately, they've in all likelihood decided not to have an assistant this season, general manager David Franke said.

What's the rationale?

According to Franke, new coach Gary Graham is preferring it this way for this season and the Komets have a luxury that most teams don't have -- they have a full-time general manager, who can handle things like travel, immigration work visas, all the paperwork that a coach normally has to handle.

That frees up Graham to worry about one thing -- coaching.

And in my opinion, I think it would have been difficult for Graham to spread his wings with Chaulk around. I just didn't see that relationship working, especially after a lot of fans wanted Chaulk to be the head coach in the first place.
