Watford signs with team in Israel

Former Indiana forward Christian Watford will begin his professional career with Hapoel Eilat in Israel.

Hapoel Eilat confirmed the news in a news release, written in Hebrew, on its website.

"Christian is a very talented player," Hapoel Eilat coach Oded Kattash said in the statement. "His partnership with Yancy Gates underneath the basket is important to us. For a rookie outside of America for the first time, Eilat is a great first stop for his career."

Watford averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Hoosiers during their Sweet 16 run in 2012-13. The 6-foot-9 forward, known for his game-winning shot against then-No. 1 Kentucky on Dec. 10, 2011, could play small forward or be a stretch four for his new team.

Watford participated in summer-league play with the Indiana Pacers and the Dallas Mavericks, but was not picked up by either team.
