TinCaps give up 6-run inning, drop game at Dayton

Fort Wayne suffered a six-run eighth inning that turned a 5-2 advantage into an 8-5 loss Sunday at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.

The TinCaps (55-48, 12-22 second half) edged another step closer to .500 after their third straight loss.

Reliever Trevor Gott gave up five earned runs in the eighth and earned his first loss of the year.

The Dragons (48-57, 20-16) started the eighth with a home run from Seth Mejias-Brean off of Gott. Gott walked the next batter, produced a fielder's choice groundout and then gave up three straight singles to score a run and load the bases.

Chris Nunn came in for Gott, and Beau Amaral sent a grand slam over the right field wall to complete the rally and secure the series for the Dragons.

Fort Wayne starter Bryan Rodriguez's six-inning outing, with five hits and one earned run, was wasted. Joey Housey got the win for Dayton, and Dragons closer Alejandro Chacin picked up the save.

The TinCaps will try to avoid a sweep Monday. First pitch of the three-game series finale is scheduled for 7 p.m.
