Arrest made in break-in, blaze

A Fort Wayne man is accused of burglarizing a house across the street from his home and torching a vehicle in the garage Monday night.

Derek Beaty, 20, was charged Friday with felony counts of burglary and receiving stolen property.

On Monday night, Beaty and an accomplice broke into the house, where no one was living, and stole items, according to court papers.

In a garage detached from the house, Beaty dumped gasoline onto a vehicle and set it on fire, and the flames spread to the rest of the garage, court papers said.

Police later recovered stolen items including a citizens band radio, an American flag on a pole and multiple keys, court papers stated.

Beaty, of the 4300 block of Plaza Drive, was being held without bail on an unrelated misdemeanor Friday evening at the Allen County Jail. His accomplice was not identified in court papers.
