TinCaps drop 5-2 game in Dayton

Errors plagued the TinCaps throughout a 5-2 loss to Dayton at Fifth Third Field in Ohio.

Fort Wayne (55-47, 12-21 second half) gave up three unearned runs in the loss.

Starting pitcher Matthew Shepherd got early help with a sacrifice fly from first baseman Luis Tejada in the top of the second.

But a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame, followed by a run-scoring single and a throwing error by catcher Rodney Daal, turned a 1-0 lead into a 3-1 deficit.

A triple by shortstop Tyler Stubblefield in the top of the sixth gave Fort Wayne some life, and second baseman Maxx Tissenbaum drove him in on a single to right to make it 3-2.

But the Dragons (47-57, 18-16) tacked on two runs in the bottom of the seventh to squash the rally.

Note: The TinCaps announced the release of former Purdue infielder Eric Charles. Charles played in six games for the TinCaps. Closer Roman Madrid was placed on the disabled list, while pitcher Ruben Mejia and Tejada were reinstated from the disabled list.
