Hiatt, Pollack among 6 receiving Indiana arts awards

INDIANAPOLIS – Songwriter and Indianapolis native John Hiatt and late director-actor Sidney Pollack are among six people winning Indiana Governor’s Arts Awards this year.

The Indiana Arts Commission announced the winners Friday.

Pollack, who died in 2008, was born in Lafayette and attended high school in South Bend. His films include “The Firm” and “Out of Africa.”

Also receiving the awards are philanthropist Christel DeHaan of Indianapolis, Mayor Mark Kruzan of Bloomington, the Bloomington group known as Traditional Arts Indiana, and music educator and vocalist Cynthia Hartshorn of Indianapolis.

Gov. Mike Pence says in a statement the recipients “strengthen the culture of Indiana through their individual work, commitment to community development, and enthusiasm and support for the arts in their many forms.”
