Man stabs 5 people to death in central China

BEIJING – Police in central China say a lone knifeman stabbed five people to death and wounded three others in the latest in a string of rampage attacks.

Henan provincial police said Friday that Ding Jinhua killed three people in the village of Dazhuzhuang. The 38-year-old furniture salesman then drove to a nearby furniture market where he killed a shop owner and taxi driver and drove off in the cab.

Thursday’s killings follow a series of deadly attacks on members of the public by mentally ill people or those bearing grudges against their neighbors, society, or the government.

In the bloodiest case, a man killed 47 people in June when he set fire to a crowded commuter bus after a feud over social security payments.
