An Allen County, Ohio, officer involved in a shooting in Paulding County this month was cleared Thursday, officials said.
Deputy Gary Hook properly followed policies and procedures in shooting a man who barricaded himself inside a home armed with handguns, Paulding County Sheriff Jason K. Landers said.
Officers went to a home in the 4000 block of County Road 95 at 9:11 p.m. July 3 on a call about a man who was believed to be suicidal and armed with a gun.
After several hours of negotiations, members of the Allen County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team entered the home and the man fired his weapon at officers, police said.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said.
The shooting case is being investigated by the Van Wert County Sheriff’s detective bureau. A report has been turned over to the Paulding County prosecutor for possible charges.
The next scheduled session of the county grand jury is Aug. 8, police said.
