Girl, 17, dies after pickup strikes buggy

MONTGOMERY, Ind. – Authorities say a southern Indiana teenager has died from her injuries after being thrown from a horse-drawn cart struck by a pickup truck.

Daviess County sheriff’s deputies said 17-year-old Amy Wagler of Montgomery was a passenger in a horse-drawn cart that was struck Monday night on a rural road by a pickup driven by 17-year-old Tristan Wagler of Montgomery.

The Washington Times Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1aGWleJ) that the collision ejected all four of the cart’s passengers, but it said three weren’t injured.

Amy Wagler was transported to a local hospital and then transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, where she died from her injuries.

It wasn’t clear if she was related to the pickup driver. Wagler is a common surname in the area about 50 miles northeast of Evansville.
