45 years ordered in teen sex abuse

A Fort Wayne man maintained his innocence Friday, saying he did not have sex with a 13-year-old girl after giving her alcohol and marijuana.

But that didn’t stop an Allen Superior Court Judge from handing him a lengthy prison term.

Jessie L. Johnston, 28, received 45 years in prison for the crimes a jury convicted him of last month.

Johnston, of the 900 block of Home Avenue, was charged with three felony counts of child molesting and two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor back in February.

According to Allen Superior Court records, the victim told investigators that she and Johnston had sex twice, that they smoked marijuana – which he gave her – before both trysts.

He also gave her alcohol before the second time they had sex, she said in court records.

Johnston took the case to trial, where a jury heard testimony and evidence and convicted him on all counts.

Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull gave Johnston 45 years for two of the molesting counts, six years for another molesting count and one year each for the contributing to delinquency counts.

She ordered all the sentences to be served at the same time.

Johnston said he planned to appeal his conviction.
