IPFW names interim athletic director

IPFW named women's volleyball coach Kelley Hartley Hutton the program's interim athletic director, the university announced Tuesday.

Hutton takes over as AD on Aug. 1 as IPFW searches for a permanent replacement for Tommy Bell, who will leave to over as athletic director at Western Illinois. A search committee will be formed to select a new athletic director.

"Kelley's leadership in Athletics and her stewardship as head coach of the women's volleyball program make her a trusted resource for our university," said Stan Davis, interim chancellor for financial affairs, in a press release. "Her administrative experience, guidance, and talent will serve us well through the transition period."

Hutton has been the women's volleyball coach for the last 14 seasons, and she was the senior woman administrator and associate athletic director for 12 years at IPFW.

Hutton played four years with Toledo, serving as team captain during her junior and senior years. She earned an M.S. in sports administration from Bowling Green, while working at the Mid-American Conference office. After completing a one-year NCAA internship with the MAC, she was appointed to a full-time position.

Hutton came to IPFW in 1999 after serving one year at Robert Morris.

I am excited for the year ahead in IPFW athletics, coming off our best season both academically and athletically under the leadership of Tommy Bell," Hutton said. "Our department is poised to thrive and move forward serving student-athletes and competing at the highest levels of success on and off the playing field."
