TinCaps fall to Kernels, 11-4

Hitting was rediscovered at Parkview Field on Monday, but the Cedar Rapids Kernels found a majority of it in an 11-4 win over the TinCaps in front of 6,345 fans.

The Kernels outhit the TinCaps 14-10.

Adam Brett Walker led the Cedar Rapids' resurgence with the bat with a two-run double in the first and a two-run home run in the sixth.

The offense helped the Kernels (61-37, 21-9 second half) off set three errors and win the series.

Both teams used four pitchers.

The two teams had combined for four runs in splitting the first two games of the series.

The TinCaps (54-45, 11-19) won the first game 1-0 on Saturday, while the Kernels picked up the pitching duel win the next day, 2-1.

The TinCaps got a run in the seventh to make it 11-4 on a double by Mallex Smith and a RBI fielder's choice by Diego Goris.

TinCaps starter Walker Weickel (3-5) took the loss by giving up seven hits and seven earned runs in three innings.
