Child molester nets 30-year prison term

His victim, now a grown woman, forgave him.

But Forrest G. Bower, 50, refused to look her direction or at her mother while they addressed him before he was sentenced Friday in Allen Superior Court to 30 years in prison.

Last month, Bower pleaded guilty to child molesting and sexual misconduct with a minor.

According to court documents, Bower began having sex with the girl in 2006, when she was 12, when they were both living in Fort Wayne. He gave her money and gifts and told her she could be taken away from her mother if she told anyone about what he was doing.

Prosecutors originally charged Bower in March 2011. He was not arrested until January.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to a total of 35 years in prison, with five years suspended and four years served on probation.

After the women spoke, Bower addressed the court.

“I’d like to say I’m sorry,” he said. “I’m sorry for what I’ve done.”
