Sex act attempt nets 10-year term

A man with a history of exposing himself in public was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison, this time for trying to force a woman to perform a sexual act on him.

Derek Eccard, 26, has a number of misdemeanor convictions for public indecency. In June, he pleaded guilty to public indecency as a felony, as well as a more serious charge of attempted criminal deviate conduct.

In March, Allen County prosecutors charged Eccard after he exposed himself in a north-side thrift store and grabbed a female employee’s head and forced it downward.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Eccard received a 10-year sentence on the most serious charge of attempted criminal deviate conduct, and a two-year sentence on the charge of public indecency.

Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull ordered the sentences to be served at the same time.
