Special events

Powers Church, nine miles east of Angola on Old Indiana 1, will have a service at 7 p.m. July 28. Nathan Derico, pastor of Columbia Church of Christ, will give the devotional and Olde York Church will provide ice cream after the service.

Grace Presbyterian Church, 1181 Fairhill Road, will have “Back to School with Grace” that offers free backpacks and some school supplies from 2 to 4 p.m. July 28. There will also be a moonwalk, games, entertainment and refreshments.

Union Baptist Church, 2200 Smith St., will have its “Summer Fun Week” from today through July 28 with weeklong activities. The church’s childcare “Shine On” Diamond Anniversary Way Great-Play Date happens today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with family fun and games for infants through elementary age children. Chautauqua-Wawasee at Oakwood Park in Syracuse will have its education lecture from 10:30 a.m. to noon today and its religious lecture from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Paul D. Steury, education coordinator with Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center, will present “Sense of Place” about ecosystems and natural processes of northeast Indiana today.
