Heat index: 100 to 105 degrees today

FORT WAYNE – The National Weather Service in northern Indiana has issued a heat advisory that remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday.

It said high temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 90s this afternoon, with the peak afternoon heat indices between 100 and 105 degrees. The heat index is how hot it feels because of both the heat and humidity.

Counties in the advisory area:

  • Indiana – Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, Whitley, LaPorte, St. Joseph Elkhart, Starke, Pulaski, Marshall, Fulton, White, Cass, Miami, Grant, Blackford and Jay.
  • Ohio – Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Allen.
Some relief is forecast for the weekend, and the weather service said thunderstorms are possible after 4 p.m. Friday.
