FORT WAYNE – The bodies of two people were found inside a burning house Thursday morning near McMillen Park on the city's southeast side.
The call came in at 8:47 a.m., and firefighters arrived at 3215 Senate Ave. by 8:50 a.m., according to Deputy Fire Chief Mark Nelson.
Smoke and flames were visible, but firefighters were soon able to go inside, where they found two people, both dead, Nelson said.
He said the first victim was found in 2 minutes and the second 7 minutes later.
Fire officials did not immediately release the genders or any other identifying information about the victims.
Nelson said the fire was reported by a someone who was riding by on a bicycle and that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
City police were also called to the scene of the fire.
The fire department said the house was heavily damaged by the fire.
The Allen County Coroner's Office will release the cause of death and identities of the victims.
A dog also died in the blaze.
