Cat adoptions drop to $10

Statement as issued Thursday by the Allen County SPCA:

Fort Wayne, Ind., July 18, 2013 – To respond to the crisis of feline overpopulation in Fort Wayne this summer, the Allen County SPCA has reduced its regular feline adoption fee from $70 to just $10 with approved application.

"Initially we were offering the $10 feline adoptions on Fridays only, but the program has been so successful that we felt we should extend it to every day this summer," said shelter director, Jessica Henry. Spring and summer seasons see an enormous influx of kittens in our community, and shelters are inundated with requests for help. "The more animals we can spay/neuter and find homes for, the more open spaces we'll have to intake cats and kittens from the community," Henry stated.

All felines at the Allen County SPCA shelter, located at 4914 S. Hanna Street, have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. The $10 adoption fee applies to felines at the shelter or the adoption centers within PetSmart Lima Road or Apple Glen. Reduced adoption fees will last through Labor Day. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday 11a.m.-5p.m.

The mission of the Allen County SPCA is to promote the prevention of cruelty to animals by providing a safe haven for animals, an effective and comprehensive adoption program, education and outreach programs for the community and deep and broad membership and volunteer programs.
