June unemployment rate up despite more jobs

Indiana’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate edged up in June to 8.4 percent despite 5,300 jobs being created in the state’s private sector, officials announced today.

The seasonally adjusted rate was 8.3 percent in May.

The Fort Wayne metropolitan statistical area saw unemployment increase to 8.2 percent from 7.7 percent last month. That number is not adjusted for seasonal fluctuations in employment.

Fort Wayne’s MSA comprises Allen, Wells and Whitley counties.
