Couple fend off home invaders

They said they had a gun, and they came into the home planning to clean it out.

They left when a husband and wife, armed with a toy guitar and some serious kicking power, decided to not just go quietly into the night.

Fort Wayne Police were called to a home in the 7100 block of Hickory Creek on Sunday night.

There, they were flagged down by a man who said three males – possibly teenagers or in their early 20s – had just tried to rob the home there.

The man said the trio came into the home with the hoods of their sweatshirts pulled tight to cover their faces, a police report said.

They warned the man that his son owed them money, that they were armed and that they were there to collect whatever was in the house.

When the man led them upstairs, they ran into his wife – who had just woken up the report said.

The woman began yelling at the three before grabbing a toy guitar and striking one of them in the head.

At that point, at least two of the three were stuck in the stairwell heading up the stairs.

The husband pushed one down the stairs, knocking him into one of his accomplices, the report said.

As that person tried to climb back up the stairs, one of the residents kicked him in the chest, knocking him backward.

The three intruders then “got all wide-eyed” and ran outside, the husband told police in the report.

They were seen driving away in a gray or silver car.
