Sen. Tom Wyss, R-Fort Wayne, received the Distinguished Public Service Award from the Indiana American Legion at the organization’s convention in Indianapolis on Saturday.
Richard Jewell, outgoing commander of the state Legion, described Wyss as “an unwavering advocate for Hoosier veterans and their families,” according to a news release.
Jewell cited Wyss’ authorship of a law to have military training or experience recognized for Emergency Medical Services licenses and his work on a resolution to name part of Interstate 69 south of Indianapolis the Iraq Afghanistan Veterans Memorial Highway.
Wyss is chairman of the Senate committee that has jurisdiction over veterans affairs. In June, he was named Legislator of the Year by the Indiana Disabled American Veterans.
