TinCaps’ starters winless in last 11

– The bats had been lively. The pitching, well, not so much.

Coming into Friday night’s game in Appleton, Wis., the TinCaps had lost three of four games and continued a streak of 11 consecutive games in which their starting pitcher failed to get a win.

In that span, starters were 0-7 and the TinCaps, overall, were 3-8.

Too bad for the offense. Fort Wayne had totaled 42 runs over six games heading into Friday, when the game against the Timber Rattlers went into extra innings. For the result of Friday’s game, go to www.journalgazette.net.

Fort Wayne came into the night 6-14 in the second half of the Midwest League season, 49-40 overall. The Timber Rattlers were 9-11, 38-47 overall.

Before the game, the TinCaps made some changes to their lineup.

Infielder Luis Tejada was placed on the disabled list with an undisclosed injury.

Tejada, a Midwest League all-star, was batting .243 with 31 RBI in 79 games.

Infielder Eric Charles joined the TinCaps from Eugene. Charles, who is from Zionsville, played at Purdue.
