Police and fire

4 injured, 1 arrested in overnight shootings

Two early morning shootings Saturday injured four people and led to one arrest while police continue to search for two others involved.

At 2:57 a.m., a fight between two men that began inside Cancun Night Club, 110 W. Columbia St., continued outside the club when one of the two men pulled a gun and opened fire, police said.

Kulon Lewis, 19, and another man were having an argument and both left the bar shortly before 3 a.m., according to Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman Chris Felton.

As they walked outside, the argument continued and the man began to physically fight Lewis. A short time later, the man began walking away from the area, and Lewis pulled a handgun and began firing shots into the area, Felton said.

The man involved with the argument and another individual were struck by shrapnel from the bullets ricocheting, Felton said. A third person was injured after being struck by a car while he was fleeing from the area.

All of the injured were listed in good condition.

Lewis, of Fort Wayne, got into a vehicle and fled from the area, but was arrested a short time later.

He was being held on charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of a handgun without a license and criminal recklessness, Felton said.

Less than 30 minutes later, a woman had finished pumping gas at the Shell Gas Station, 4181 Hessen Cassel Road, and pulled away from the station when two men driving a purple Grand Am fired at least one bullet through her driver's side window, Felton said.

The woman told officers she was pumping gas at about 3 a.m. when two males in a purple Grand Am pulled up next to her and began yelling at her, Felton said. The woman ignored them and got back in her vehicle and began to drive away.

The Grand Am then pulled up next to her vehicle and fired at least one shot from the passenger's side window into her driver's side window, shooting her in the wrist, Felton said. It was not clear whether the driver or the passenger fired the shot, he said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital by a friend and was listed in good condition.

She told police she did not know the men in the Grand Am, Felton said.

Felton said police would review security video for additional information about the shooting.
