Defiance woman dies in Saturday crash

A Defiance woman was killed Saturday morning after her car was struck by a pickup truck in Tiffin Township.

At about 10:45 a.m., Janice Thompson, of Defiance, was driving southbound on Carpenter Road when she was struck by Edward C. Osborn who was driving westbound on Banner School Road, according to a release from Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Thompson, 62, was driving a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am and failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of Carpenter and Banner School roads, where the two vehicles collided.

Osborn’s 2011 GMC pickup truck struck the Grand Am, sending both of the vehicles off the side of the road where they came to a rest, police said.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Defiance County Coroner.

A child in her vehicle was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Osborn, 74, of Defiance, and a passenger were transported to Defiance Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

All individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said.
