  • Kenner qualified for LaGrange prosecutor
Greg Kenner is a candidate in the election for the LaGrange County prosecutor. I believe he is the best qualified to be the next prosecutor of LaGrange County.
  • Work share can work for Hoosier workers
Work share is a positive option for both companies and their employees in times of economic need. It is a voluntary program that allows employers to maintain a skilled and stable workforce during temporary economic downturns.
  • Fear-based economy of benefit to no one
A squadron of fighter jets screamed through the quiet skies over our garden again yesterday. I suspect I should feel very protected by their presence, but I don’t feel safer.

Cheers & jeers

CHEERS to Max Robison and all the volunteers who make honor flights possible to all the World War II vets like me. I had a great time on my May 29 flight. Thanks to everyone for their outstanding hard work.

CHEERS to the gentleman who was waiting for a to-go order and paid our bill at the Black Dog Pub on June 28. We motioned him to our table to say thank you. He said when he was in the sixth grade he had a teacher who told him to do nice things for people. He shook our hands and said, “Have a nice evening.” We were stunned, we said thank you so much and we will pass it on. We are proud to say there are a lot of good things that happen that we just don’t hear about.

LOIS and DERRY LESH Fort Wayne

CHEERS to Marshall White and the Voices of Unity Choir on their uplifting performance on June 29 at the Performing Arts Center. Fort Wayne is fortunate to have such fine, outstanding and talented young boys and girls representing our city in their choral performances. I hope this city will support them in their quest for a second gold medal in Latvia in 2014.

JEERS to whoever stole my beautiful birdfeeder in late June or early July. I hope you will enjoy it. I live on Social Security. My funds are limited. Stealing is a crime, so you are a thief. I do not have the money to replace the item, but whoever took it, shame, shame, shame!

CHEERS to the Kroger Marketplace on Dupont Road. On July 2, I inadvertently left my cell phone with my cart. I called the store to see whether anyone had found it and about 20 minutes after my initial call, the service desk called to tell me my phone was located. Hats off to great customer service.

CHEERS to the person who turned in my card holder at the Wal-Mart at Southtown Crossing on July 3.

CHEERS to GM employees for helping me enjoy IU baseball at the College World Series. Their contributions helped me get to and stay in Omaha where I had a lot of fun experiencing the city with my youngest son, Will Coursen-Carr (all except the hour or so he pitched, which was the normal anxious-parent time.) As I told others of this gift, they were warmed by such kindness.

CHEERS to The Journal Gazette’s photographers for the happy photos published recently on the front page. These have been all of happy occasions instead of murders and gruesome ones. Let’s keep it up!
