The TinCaps dropped the first segment of the three-game series Wednesday night with an 8-6 loss in a back-and-forth game, and went into Thursday’s game with Max Fried on the mound.
Since Fried won June 29 at Lake County, Fort Wayne starters had boasted a horrific 0-6 record and the TinCaps had dropped to 6-13 in the second half of the season before Thursday.
Prior to this week, the last time Fort Wayne had played in Appleton, Wis., it was in the midst of 2012 Midwest League Championship Series, which the Timber Rattlers won.
Wisconsin is 9-11 in the second half, 38-47 overall while Fort Wayne is 49-40 overall.
The TinCaps’ bats had come alive; they were averaging 13.6 hits and 7.8 runs over their last five games, including a batting average of .360.
