Fire chief resigns after fight with man

RICHMOND – Richmond’s fire chief has resigned from his post after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct for fighting with a man in a nearby town.

Fire Department Chief Mike Crawley on Wednesday submitted his resignation, effective July 16.

The Palladium-Item reported ( ) Mayor Sally Hutton said Crawley will remain with the fire department as a lieutenant.

Crawley pleaded guilty last month to one count of disorderly conduct in connection with an April fight in Centerville with 33-year-old Chad King. King pleaded guilty to the same charge earlier this month.

Crawley told police King struck him at least three times, injuring his nose and chipping one of his teeth. King told police Crawley struck him and spit on him during the incident.
