Coats, GOP urge end to health law

The office of Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind., announced Wednesday that he and the 45 other Republicans in the Senate have sent a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to halt implementation of the federal health care law.

The letter chides the Obama administration’s decision last week to delay by a year a mandate of the law that would require large employers to provide insurance to employees who work at least 30 hours a week.

In the first sentence, the senators write that Obama “unilaterally acted and failed to work with Congress on such a significant decision.” But the last sentence of the letter acknowledges that the delay “provides temporary relief for some.”

The missive contends the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will cost jobs, reduce the hours of workers and raise taxes.
