Gabe Holmes makes John Mackey Award watch list

Purdue tight end Gabe Holmes was among 37 players named to the John Mackey Award watch list today. The Mackey Award goes to the best tight end in the nation.

Holmes had a career-high 25 receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns in his junior season and will likely see more tosses his way this season in coach Darrell Hazell's tight end-heavy formations.

Holmes was one of seven Big Ten tight ends on the list.
