16-year-old ejected as boat flies into yard

A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured Sunday when a boat she was riding in struck a seawall and went airborne, landing in the yard of a northeast Indiana lake home.

Indiana conservation officers said Marshall Dillon, 18, of Goshen, was attempting to dock a 2005 Nautique at Lake Wawasee about 5:40 p.m. when the linkage handle broke, causing the boat to accelerate out of control.

The boat hit the seawall near 11554 Venetian Drive, ejecting Riley Wagner, 16, of New Paris. She ended up 50 feet away in a driveway, conservation officers said.

Her condition Monday was not immediately available.

There was significant damage to the boat and property on land, conservation officers said.
