IPFW offers in-state rates to some Ohio students

IPFW students from six Ohio counties will now pay in-state tuition as part of a reciprocity agreement, university officials announced Monday.

Butler, Darke, Preble, Shelby, Mercer and Van Wert counties are included in the agreement, designed to recruit students from Ohio to attend IPFW while limiting tuition costs, IPFW officials said.

According to last year’s tuition rates, IPFW in-state students paid about $5,347.65 for 21 undergraduate credit hours, while out-of-state students paid $12,844.65 for the same number of credit hours.

The decision to add the six counties is part of a reciprocity agreement between the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Ohio Board of Regents, IPFW Chancellor Vicky Carwein said.

“This is a win-win situation for students looking for students looking for a college near home with affordable tuition and we are very pleased to be included in the new reciprocity agreement,” Carwein said.

Several other colleges, including Ball State University, Indiana University East and Ivy Tech colleges in Muncie and Richmond, Ind., already participate in the agreement.
