Indiana baseball coach Tracy Smith added Miami (Ohio) head coach Dan Simonds as an associate head coach for the Hoosiers, the program announced Monday.
"Our familiarity having both coached and played together before, as well as his head coaching experience will be huge assets for us," Smith said in a statement. "Moving forward, Dan's high level of baseball background allows Indiana to continue its prominence on the national stage."
Smith was head coach for the RedHawks when Simonds was an assistant there, and the two played together in the minor leagues in 1990. Simonds will be the Hoosiers' hitting coach and work extensively with catchers, the statement said.
"It is an exciting opportunity to work alongside one of the top coaches in the entire country," Simonds said in the statement. "My family and I are looking forward to becoming Hoosiers. I'm eager to coach the caliber of student-athletes Indiana University is able to attract."
