TinCaps trail Loons 5-4 with 3 innings left

Fort Wayne put up two runs in the bottom of the fifth to inch closer to Great Lakes, which leads 5-4 after six innings.

The TinCaps got just 4 2/3 innings from starter Walker Weickel, who threw 93 pitches in that span. Reliever Collin Rea gave up two straight walks and a two-run single in the fifth to make it 5-2 Loons.

Two of those runs were credited to Weickel.

Trevor Gott came on to get the final out, and Fort Wayne fired back in the bottom of the frame.

The TinCaps led off the fifth with a double, a walk and a run-scoring single to make it 5-4 and force Great Lakes starter Brandon Martinez off the mound. He gave up eight hits and four earned runs in his outing.

A 1-2-3 inning from Gott and a scoreless sixth for Fort Wayne brought the teams into the seventh.
