  • A possible new Komet
No official word yet, but I'm hearing that the Komets may be completing a deal with Thomas Frazee, who had 24 goals and 47 points in 60 games last season with Quad City of the CHL.
  • Komets affiliate with Avs, Lake Erie
The Komets have aligned with the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and their American Hockey League team, the Lake Erie Monsters.
  • This is sad news
Former Komets star Joe Kastelic, who once owned the record for most goals scored in the IHL, died Wednesday at 81. He skated for the Komets from 1953 to 1957 and then again in 1960-61.

Auger still in the mix

The single biggest question I've received since the Komets' six qualifying offers were announced -- click here to see what I'm talking about -- has been: What about Chris Auger?

The Komets are still interested in bringing him back. But Auger, who missed most of last season because of injury, does have other suitors.

So why wasn't he given a qualifying offer? I'm guessing it's because of Auger's salary of last season, when he was projected to be a top-line forward. Because of the collective bargaining agreement, if you get a qualifying offer, you are bound for a raise, at least that's my understanding.

So that would explain a lot.
