Joint statement as issued Wednesday:
Whitley County -- The Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Tri-Lakes Property Owners Association would like everyone to be aware of a lengthy dredging project that will begin in mid July on the Tri Lakes Lake Chain located in northern Whitley County. This project funded by Indiana’s Lake and River Enhancement Program will affect boating traffic on Round Lake, Little Cedar Lake, and Big Cedar Lake in varying degrees over the next 4 to 5 months. Anyone utilizing these lakes can expect to see equipment being set up around the lakes beginning the week of July 8th with actual dredging beginning the following week.
Anyone out on these lakes throughout the remainder of the year should be aware of navigational hazards, channel closings, and equipment present on the lakes as a result of this project. There will be occasional disruptions to boat traffic which will affect passage through the lakes channels during certain periods of the project. As dredging is occurring on the channels, all boating traffic will be prohibited within the affected channel. Access to all lakes from the public access site on Round Lake will be completely restricted during the phase of the project beginning in November.
The projected work schedule is listed below and work will continue throughout the duration of the project even on weekends. Please use extreme caution as danger buoys will be present marking piping and other equipment that will be present across the lakes. There will also be under water dangers to be aware of as some sections of the piping will be submerged to allow boating traffic to access all areas of the lakes.
