4-car crash on Illinois Road critically injures girl, 10

FORT WAYNE – A 10-year-old girl was badly hurt in a four-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Illinois Road, according to Fort Wayne police.

Three of the vehicles were in the eastbound lanes of Illinois Road, waiting at a traffic light at Magnavox Way, when a fourth vehicle rear-ended them, police said.

Shortly before 3 p.m., police and paramedics were dispatched to the intersection, just east of Interstate 69.

In one of the vehicles that was hit, the 10-year-old girl and a woman suffered injuries. When paramedics took them to a hospital, the woman's condition was stable and the girl was in serious condition. At the hospital, a doctor downgraded the girl to critical condition, police said.

The man driving the vehicle that rear-ended the other vehicles complained of pain, and his family took him to a hospital. His condition was stable, police said.

Motorists in two of the vehicles struck were not injured, police said.

Some of the eastbound lanes on Illinois were shut down while authorities dealt with the wreck. Those lanes were opened to traffic about 6:50 p.m.

The motorists' names were not released.

The crash remains under investigation.
