•Michele Platte was honored by the Junior League of Fort Wayne as its 2013 Active Member of the Year.

Terrin Thomas of Auburn was crowned Miss Indiana 2013 on June 22 in Zionsville and will compete in the Miss America competition on Sept. 15.

Giving back

•The Tippmann-McArdle Women’s Care Center Classic held last month raised $170,000 for the Women’s Care Center of Allen County, which offers pregnancy resources.

•The Women’s Bureau received $30,000 from the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, $10,000 from INCASA and $25,000 from Lincoln Financial and $5,000 from Vera Bradley for its Dress for Success program.

•The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne received a $3,000 grant from Precor to support efforts to help children in northeast Indiana live healthier lives through the Y’s Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.

•The Fort Wayne Urban League received $3,000 from the Dollar General Literacy organization to support its literacy programming during the Urban League’s Summer Academy for students in grades kindergarten through 12.

Science Central received a $40,000 grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation for the center’s Lincoln Financial Foundation Demonstration Theater. The money will be used to purchase supplies and items needed to conduct demonstrations daily.


•The New Haven High School class of 1942 will have its reunion Sept. 14 at the VFW on Dawkins Road in New Haven. Lunch will be at noon. For more information or for reservations, call Betty Peters at 639-3132.
