TinCaps blank Lake County for 5-0 win

A barrage of hits and solid start from TinCaps pitcher Max Fried propelled Fort Wayne to a 5-0 win against Lake County on Saturday at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.

The TinCaps (46-32) put together consecutive wins for the first time in the second half of the season and improved to 3-6 since the All-Star break. Lake County (28-49) stretched its losing streak to four.

Fried went five innings for Fort Wayne and picked up the win. He gave up two hits and no earned runs while striking out three and walking two batters.

His offense helped out early in the game.

The TinCaps put together a three-run second inning that featured five base hits. Third baseman Chris Burke got his third home run of the season in the sixth inning, and the TinCaps totaled 13 hits.

Center fielder Mallex Smith led Fort Wayne with a 4-for-5 day at the plate, including one RBI.

Relievers Colin Rea, Chris Nunn and Roman Madrid pitched four innings of scoreless relief for the TinCaps. The Captains got just one hit off the relievers, a double by designated hitter Jeremy Lucas off Nunn in the eighth.

Note: Nunn was activated off the disabled list by the TinCaps on Saturday.
