Music promoter admits guilt in frauds

Self-proclaimed music promoter Richard A. Phillips, aka “Richie Rich,” pleaded guilty Tuesday to corrupt business influence, admitting to a series of frauds.

Prosecutors also charged Phillips, 34, with five counts of theft. As part of a plea agreement, those charges will be dismissed at sentencing.

According to court documents, Phillips took more than $110,000 from his then parents-in-law and put about $2,000 in hotel room charges on a woman’s credit card without her permission.

A man told police he and his band gave Phillips $17,300 in August 2011 to promote their group, but he never did, according to court documents.

And in June 2012, according to court documents, the owner of a promotional company in Bloomington said Phillips failed to deliver to him the proceeds from a show in South Bend as has been promised.
