Irish add defensive recruit

Notre Dame added a defensive recruit to its 2014 recruiting class with plenty of family history with the Irish.

Jonathan Bonner, a 6-foot-4, 250-pounder from Parkway Central in Chesterfield, Mo., committed to Notre Dame hours after receiving his offer from the program Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

"You can pretty much say that it's my family's school, so I've decided to commit to the University of Notre Dame," Bonner told Irish Sports Daily. "My uncle (Dany Knott) played running back there a while back and my godfather's grandson was (former Notre Dame defensive back) Sergio Brown, so I've heard about all the benefits and I know how a diploma from there will benefit me later in life."

Bonner told Irish Sports Daily that the coaching staff told him he will play outside linebacker for the Irish. Bonner had 64 tackles and 12 sacks as a junior, according to Irish Sports Daily.

He is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com and 247Sports.

Bonner's decision was also reported by Irish Illustrated and Blue & Gold Illustrated.

Bonner is the 13th member of Notre Dame's 2014 recruiting class, and joins linebacker Greer Martini, tackle Jay Hayes and end Andrew Trumbetti as defensive recruits.
