Brent Henley of Fort Wayne, left, fights Kalamazoo's Henry Young during a November 2012 game at Memorial Coliseum. Henley, who got five minutes for fighting in this bout, has signed to play in Europe this season.

Henley signs in Europe

Former Komets defenseman Brent Henley has signed to play with the Nottingham Panthers in Great Britain, the Nottingham Post has reported.

Henley, 32, was part of the Komets' CHL champion team in 2011-12. He was traded from Fort Wayne to the Florida Everblades in February.

Panthers coach Corey Neilson told the Post that Henley had been on his radar for a long time.

"Brent is a true defensive player who just loves being mean," Neilson said. "And doing that job for Central League playoff champions Fort Wayne two years ago, he led the league in penalty minutes but also in plus-minus.

"He's certainly an upgrade on any other tough guy we've ever had."
