Boating under the influence enforcement set

Indiana conservation officers will be on lakes and rivers this weekend for Boating Under the Influence detection and enforcement, the Department of Natural Resources said today.

Operation Dry Water from Friday through Sunday is a coordinated, national weekend aimed at reducing the number of alcohol-related accidents and fatalities, and to foster a stronger and more visible deterrent to alcohol use on the water, conservation officers said in a statement.

Nationally, 17 percent of boating fatalities involve alcohol use, the statement said. In 2012, it said, two people died in Indiana boating accidents, and 22 were injured.
