Man found dead at apartment complex ID'd

A Fort Wayne man was identified as the person found dead Sunday evening in front of a north-side apartment building, the Allen County coroner's office said today.

Michael D. Eltzroth, 46, died from blunt-force trauma of the head, but the manner of his death is pending, the coroner's office said in a statement.

The statement said the incident remains under investigation by Fort Wayne police and the coroner's office.

Police received a report about 7:50 p.m. that a man was on the ground at Stone Pointe Village Apartments in the 400 block of Cedar Glen Drive, near Coldwater and Cook roads, said Officer John Chambers, a police spokesman.

Officers and paramedics arrived, and the man was pronounced dead.

Chambers said investigators interviewed neighbors in an attempt to learn more about the man’s death. But it was not immediately clear how the man died and whether foul play was involved.

Chambers did not know whether the man had any visible injuries, but said a weapon was not found.
